Without the work of
tripleb this page would not be possible since most of the pictures are his.
The first two tables are from a 26" Nova, the third is from a
28" SBE and the fourth is the
Nova again. His results include a lot of
reloads, Kent Steel, Kent Impact, Estate Steel, Winchester Steel and more.
The chokes are .665 and .675 Terror, a Wad Wizard Supreme, and a few factory
chokes, Hastings, and Briley. His 10ga patterns.
-
I
also want to thank dukfvr for letting me use his
data as well. He is using a Benelli SBE with a 28"
barrel and shot a Wad Wizard Swat, .700 Terror, and .655 Terror and factory
Federal HHV and HeviShot.
-
I need to add
woodsie
picts as
well. He is using a Benelli M1 with Kent
FastSteel and HighSpeed Kent Impact with extended Briley chokes.
-
Thanks to ringbill
for his data from a Winchester Super X2 and a
Benelli with .700 Terror
-
My results are here
using a SBE with 28" and WW SWAT, and WW Supreme .700, Briley X2 LM, and
Briley X2 IM chokes and factory Winchester, Kent, Estate, Remington,
Baschieri & Pellagri, and some dove loads.
Wad Wizard Choke
This is the 1 1/16 oz.
load of 2's using a 2 3/4" Multimetal and 3" Active case, at
approximately 1600 fps. shot from the Wad Wizard at 40 yards. This is
the same load I previously shot with the .675" and .665" Terror Chokes. |
Wad
Wizard Choke
This is the second shot
of the same load out of the Wad Wizard at 40 yards. |
.675" Terror Choke
This is the same load
previously shot at 40 yards using the .675" Terror Choke. |
.665" Terror Choke
This is the same 1 1/16
oz. load of 2's previously shot from the .665" Terror tube at 40 yards.

Wad
Wizard Patterns
This is a pattern shot
with the Nova and Wad Wizard Supreme at 40 yards with a 1 3/16 oz. load
of BBB's at approximately 1570 fps. using a 3.5" TPS wad |
Wad
Wizard Patterns
I thought I shot for the
center of the paper, but the pattern appeared slightly to the left.
Being concerned that I might have lost a few pellets that would have
been on the left side of the paper I shot this second pattern with the
same combination. |
.675" Terror tube patterns
This is the same load
shot previously at 40 yards with the .675" Terror Tube. |
.665" Terror Choke patterns
This is a pattern
previously shot at 40 yards with the .665" Terror Choke and the same
load of 1 3/16 oz. of BBB's. Again, the Wad Wizard did not like my
handloads. The patterns posted with the Wad Wizard in the Nova
generally mirror what I got with similar hand loads when I tried one in
my BPS 3.5" last Spring. |
This is a picture of a 2
3/4" Multimetal shot through the Wad Wizard. You can see at the tips of
the top two petals in the picture, the tips are pinched together
slightly. This occurs as the tips hit the stripping lugs, as I have
never seen the same thing in anything other than a Wad Wizard or Pattern
Master choke. I think this may be one of the reasons these particular
loads don't work well in the wad stripping tubes. I suspect when this
happens, the petals are forced in toward the center of the shot charge
and the wad does not separate from the shot charge properly.
The petals were splayed open by hand to show the pinholing, but in the
"as fired" condition, the petal tips were facing forward. |
Kent
3.5" 1 3/8 oz. BB's
This is a 1 3/8 oz. load
of Kent 3.5" BB's shot through the Nova and the Wad Wizard at 40 yards.
The velocity was a little lower than advertised, but similar to what I
got in my friend's SBE. 66% |
Kent
3.5" 1 3/8 oz. BB's

of BB's shot at 40 yards through the .675" Terror choke. 80% |
I thought I would post
some pics. of CSD wads used by Kent in the 3.5" 1 3/8 oz. loads of 1's &
BB's. The first two pics. are of wads from loads shot through the Wad
Wizard. The second two are of wads from loads shot through the .675"
Terror choke |

This is the same load
fired at 40 yards through the .675" Terror choke. |
Federal 3" load of 2's
This is a Federal 3"
load of 2's shot at 40 yards through the Wad Wizard. Now you know why
the shot was bouncing off the ducks when using this load. I bet most
people didn't realize they were shooting steel at less than 1200 fps. |
Federal 3" 1 1/4 oz. load of 2's
This is the same load as
the previous, but shot through the .675" Terror choke. The Wad Wizard
delivered a better pattern with this load than did the Terror. |
Win.
Expert 2 3/4 oz. load 1 1/8 oz. of 4's
This is the 2 3/4" 1 1/8
oz. Win. Expert load of 4's shot through the Wad Wizard. Another "dog"
of a load, worse than the Federals except for the pattern. The shot
bounced off the 1/4" OSB target backer at 40 yards. 1170 fps. |
2
3/4" Win. Expert 1 1/8 oz. load of 4's
This is the same load
fired through the .675" Terror tube. 1285 fps. Another "dog". |
Last
of Kent shells - Hastings Xfull for T & F shot
This is a pic. of the
3.5" Kent 1 3/8 oz. load of BB's shot out of the Hastings Xfull
for
T & F shot. It's ID is .705" and generally produces good even patterns,
although a bit thin at 40 yards for my handloads. For someone who will
not shoot over 40 yards and does not want to spend the money for a Wad
Wizard or Terror choke, it's not a bad choice. Hastings chokes don't get
the publicity that Briley, Trulock and others do, but usually give good
patterns. |
3.5"
Kent 1 3/8 oz. load of 1's through Hastings Xfull for T & F
This is the same Kent
load, except with 1's. That's the last of the loads I got from Rob
Muter, hard core duck and goose hunter from Auglaize County, OH. |

Wad Wizard
This first pic. is of a 3.5"
Estate BBB load shot through a Wad Wizard. The velocity is only 996 fps. Two
others through the Wad Wizard were less than 1050 fps. This is not a problem
with the choke, but is a problem with the shells. These were supposed to be
traveling between 1350 fps. and 1400 fps., but four out of 5 shots were at
least 150 fps. slow. |
.675" Terror
This is the same 3.5" Estate
BBB load through the .675" Terror. Velocity is closer to what I expect from
the 3.5" Estate 1.5 oz. load. Whether this pattern is representative of what
this shell will do with this choke is subject to question due to the
variable performance of this shell. |
.665" Terror
This is the same 3.5" Estate
BBB load fired through the .665"

same gun and load, but with a .665" Terror tube. |
Hastings Xfull
This is a picture of a
buffered 1 1/8 oz. load of BBB's at 1550 fps. out of a Hastings Xfull
for T&F shot, which is the best tube for this load in testing previous to
acquisition of the Terror tubes. |
.675" Terror
This is a picture of the
same buffered load of BBB's out of the .675" Terror tube. This load
and choke combination is a little too tight for best performance. |
.675" Terror
This the same combination as
the last post. |
Hastings Xfull
This is a 1 3/16 oz. load
of BBB's out of the Hastings Xfull for T&F shot in the Nova. This is
about the best this load would do before the Terror tubes. Some patterns
were as high as 80%, but generally they were in the mid to low 70% level. |
.675" Terror
This is the same load (in a
3.5" case using a TPS wad cut to within .150" of the bottom of the cup) of
BBB's at 1550 fps.,but out of the .675" Terror tube. |
.665" Terror
This is the same load as the
two previous, but shot out of the .665" Terror choke. This load is basically
a ballistic equivalent of RSI 75, but out of a 3.5" case and using a TPS
wad. The TPS wad shot the best with a .0075" Mylar wrap with BBB's. The RSI
wad performed the best with 1's at the same velocity, giving patterns
similar to those of the 2's in each of the Terror chokes. |
.675" Terror Choke Pattern
with 3s'
Since some of you guys like
to shoot 3's, and I had a few MEC 3's left loaded up in the 1 1/16
oz. 1600 fps. load, I thought I would post a shot out of the .675"
Terror tube. This first one is at 40 yards - 74%. These don't have the best
surface finish I have seen on a steel pellet. |
.675" Terror Choke Pattern
with 3s'
This is the same load at 50

|
BBB's at 50 yards out of
